Govinda Vidyadhara was the founder of Bhoi Dynasty[1][2] in Eastern India. According to historians he was of writer caste descent Karan.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]Historian KC. Panigrahi has theorized Bhoi rulers to be of Karana descent.[10]According to John Briggs the term bhoi was used to denote the members of karan or writer caste who were in charge of maintaining accounts and registers of Land in Odisha.[11]John Middleton states that members of the writer caste led by their leader Govinda Vidyadhara used the kingdom's misfortunes to incite the public to rebellion to help Govinda Vidyadhara establish his bhoi dynasty in Odisha.[12]Historian Hermann Kulke has also theorized bhoi rulers to be of writer caste descent.[13]Historian Ashirbadi Lal Srivastava has theorized Govinda Vidhyadhara to be of writer caste descent.[14]He usurped the throne after the death of Gajapati Prataprudra Deva and took the title of Suvarnakeshari. His rule was short-lived that for seven years only followed by his son Chakrapratap.[15][16]
