The line through the station was electrified in December 1922.[2]

In 1970, boom barriers replaced interlocked gates at the High Street level crossing, located at the down end of the station, and the signal box was abolished around the same time.[1]

The current station building was opened in 1975,[3] without the parcel facilities that had previously been provided.[4]
