Gang Gang (Polo G and Lil Wayne song)

"Gang Gang" (stylized in all caps) is a song by American rappers Polo G and Lil Wayne. It was released as a single on May 21, 2021, as the fourth single from Polo's third studio album, Hall of Fame.[1] The song was written by the two artists and produced by Angelo Ferraro, mixed and recorded by Todd Hurtt and mastered by Eric Lagg.[2]

Background

On March 20, 2019, Polo G was interviewed by XXL, in which he named Lil Wayne as a primary influence to him during his upbringing, citing the "wordplay and metaphors" that Wayne used as a key detail.[3] On the song, Polo boasts about his success and lavish lifestyle while also calling out his haters and Wayne likens himself to college men's basketball coaches Rick Pitino for the Iona Gaels and John Calipari for the Kentucky Wildcats and also shouts out fellow American rapper Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart.[4]

Release and promotion

Polo G previewed the song through Instagram and Triller in early 2021. A snippet of Lil Wayne's verse, the second verse of the song, leaked online a few months later. On May 17, 2021, Polo announced the release date of the song.[5] He shared a snippet of the song's accompanying visuals on May 20, 2021, one day prior to its release, in which the cover art was also revealed.[6]

Music video

A music video premiered along with the song on Polo G's YouTube channel on May 21, 2021. He is seen eating dinner with friends and eventually meets up with Lil Wayne at a house party. The music video was directed by British director Troy Roscoe, known for filiming videos for rappers such as KSI.[7]
