Gameboys: The Movie

Gameboys: The Movie is a 2021 Philippine boys' love movie that is a sequel to the web series Gameboys. Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, written by Ash M. Malanum, and produced by The IdeaFirst Company, it was released in the online live-streaming platforms KTX and Ticket2Me on July 30, 2021.[1]

K-CI Williams wrote in TeenVogue, "While season one presented a social media format that defined pandemic-era storytelling, its follow-up Gameboys: The Movie bursts into “real life,” where the characters are living together in person. In all its nuance, romance, and messiness, Gameboys is paving a new road toward the future of queer storytelling."[2] Leo Balante, writing for Rank Magazine, stated, "All in all, is Gameboys: The Movie perfect? Far from it. But there’s no contest that the film adaptation is everything that a fan would hope for, not just on how it goes beyond the story of love by expertly weaving an intricate telling of the value of friendship, self-love, and empowerment, but on how it brings the narrative to greater heights, paving the way to an even more exciting next season."[3] Emerson Enriquez commented in Preview PH, "If Gameboys: The Movie accomplished anything, it’s that it stayed true to what its origin series was all about—a love that persists, no matter what."[4] Christian Jay B. Quilo wrote in SunStar, "Finally free from the limitations of a computer screen, “Gameboys The Movie” allows its leading men to soar and flesh out their characters’ emotions and interactions without restraint."[5]
