Francis McWilliams
Sir Francis McWilliams GBE (born 8 February 1926) is a British engineer and politician. He served as Lord Mayor of London from 1992 to 1993.[1]
Biography
Francis McWilliams was born on 8 February 1926,[2][3] in Portobello, Edinburgh, and educated there at Holy Cross Academy. He received a scholarship to attend the Edinburgh University to study civil engineering when he was 16 years old.[1]
After graduating in 1945, he worked in the office of Edinburgh's City Engineer and then as a civil and structural engineer in other authorities. In 1953, he relocated to British Malaysia with his wife, Wyn, and their first child. They stayed for almost a quarter century. He had his own consulting engineering practice there.[1]
Later years
In 2015, he was disqualified from driving for 12 months, after being caught over the drink-driving limit outside the Bank of England at 2:30am in his 2.7-litre Jaguar XF. He was 89 at the time.[4]
