Fatma Al Remaihi

Fatma Al Remaihi is a Qatari executive and the CEO of the Doha Film Institute. She is listed as one of Variety's Top 500 Entertainment Business Leaders and has set up events showcasing local filmmakers.

Early life and education

Al Remaihi was born and raised in the city of Doha, completing her education at Qatar University where she graduated with an English Literature degree. She is a mother of four children.[1]

Career

Al Renaihi joined Doha Film Institute at its inception in 2009, after the first Doha Tribeca Film Festival where she acted as Cultural Advisor. In December 2014, she was appointed to lead Doha Film Institute as its new CEO, overseeing the institute's strategic direction. One of her key roles is developing Qatar's presence in the regional and international stage, along with promoting Qatar film culture.[2][3]

As director of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival,[4] Al Remaihi encourages the promotion of a diverse range of films that inspire social change. These regional events focus on fostering a local film industry, replacing the more Hollywood focused events of the past.[5] Qumra is another platform under the supervision of Al Remaihi. An online resource hub, event space (both digital and virtual) and incubator to help new filmmakers improve their skills.[6] She attended the 92nd Academy Awards in Los Angeles.[7]
