Ethir Neechal (transl. Swimming against the tide) is a 2022 Indian-Tamil language drama television series, starring Madhumitha, Sabari Prasanth, Kaniha, Priyadarshini and Haripriya in lead roles. The show is produced by Sun Entertainment and Thiruselvam Theatres and written and directed by V.Thiruselvam,[1] which premiered on 7 February 2022 in Sun TV[2] and digitally streams on Sun NXT.

Plot

The story involves three co-sisters Eshwari, Renuka and Nandhini who are well educated and have college degrees, while all of their husbands aren’t educated at all. Their husbands don’t like them working recurring of what they studied. They want their wife’s to be housewife's but the co-sisters don’t like that. Janani just married Sakthivel, the youngest one of Aadhi brothers who is honest also submissive in nature. Janani doesn’t know the truth of the Aadhi brothers and Janani thinks Eshwari, Renuka and Nandhini work in offices but in reality they are housewife’s. Let’s see if Janani and her co-sisters stand up for themselves against the Aadhi brothers and how Sakthivel supports Janani in her mission and that continues the rest of the story.

Production

Development

On September end 2021, Sun Network[3] confirmed through a press release that it would distribute new Tamil serial, to be produced by Sun Entertainment and Thiruselvam theatres and written and director by Thiruselvam is a daily soap after a long pause.[4][5][6]

Casting

Kannada and Telugu actress Madhumitha was cast in the female lead role as Janani. Tamil film actress Kaniha[7][8] was cast as the main role, who making her come back after 14 years in Tamil television series.[9][10][11][12] Priyadarshini and Haripriya were cast as the next main leads. Bombay Gnanam, was cast as supporting role, who making her comeback after 10 years.[13][14][15]

Thari fame Sabari Prasanth was cast in the male lead role. While Keerthana, Kamalesh, Merwen, Goutham K S, Maarimuthu and Sathyapriya were also selected for supporting roles.

Soundtrack

It was written by Balachandran.DD, composed by Srinivas. It was sung by Sharanya Srinivas and Srinidhi. The first opening song was unveiled on 1 February 2022 on Sun TV YouTube.
