Erin Houchin

Erin Houchin (born September 24, 1976) is an American politician from the state of Indiana.[1] A member of the Republican Party, she served in the Indiana Senate for the 47th district from 2014 to 2022.[2]

Early life and education

Houchin is a native of Salem, Indiana.[3] She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Indiana University Bloomington and a Master of Arts political management from George Washington University.[4][5]

Career

Houchin worked as a field manager for U.S. Senator Dan Coats.[3] She was first elected to the Indiana Senate in 2014, defeating Richard D. Young, the incumbent.[6] She ran for the United States House of Representatives for Indiana's 9th congressional district in the 2016 elections,[7] but lost in the primary election to Trey Hollingsworth.[8][9]

On January 13, 2022, a day after Hollingsworth stated he would not run for reelection, Houchin announced that she was running to succeed him in the 2022 elections.[10] On January 29, 2022, Houchin announced that she was resigning from the Senate on February 4 to focus on her bid for Congress. She later won the Republican primary.[11][12]
