Dobe Newton

Dobe Newton OAM (b. 1948) is an Australian musician and member of The Bushwackers.[1]

Career

Dobe Newton was born in Sydney, and joined Australian bush band The Bushwackers in 1973 as a vocalist and lagerphone player.[1][2]

In 1987 he co-wrote I Am Australian with Bruce Woodley of the Seekers.[3]

During the 1990's Newton was CEO of the Western Australian Music Industry Association as they were setting up, before he moved to Victoria and took a similar role with the Victorian Rock Foundation.[4]

He was awarded an OAM in 2013 for service to the performing arts as an entertainer and advocate.[4]

In 2013 he became President of Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA), after serving on their board for ten years, when John Williamson stepped down.[5] He continues to hold the position in 2022.[6]
