Democratic Union (Argentina)
In Argentina, the Democratic union (UD, in spanish: Unión Democrática) was an alliance that was formed in 1945 between Unión Cívica Radical, the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Democratic Progressive Party to oppose the ticket Juan Domingo Perón/Hortensio Quijano at the Argentine presidential election, 1946.

The Unión Cívica Radical, that was controlled by the Alvearista faction, held the final say in the coalition, getting both the presidenatial as well as the vice-president candidature nominated, respectively José P. Tamborini and Enrique Mosca.
This left out the Yrigoyenista section of radicalism, which was divided between the explicit support of the Perón ticket (Unión Cívica Radical Junta Renovadora) and the internal opposition within the "Union", led by the section "Movimiento de Intransigencia y Renovación" - the leaders of which were i.a. Ricardo Balbín y Arturo Frondizi.
The Radicals also excluded from the alliance their old adversaries, the conservatives, which had been grouped under the banner of Partido Demócrata Nacional. This exclusion signified a coup de grace for the PDN, which soon disappeared, thus giving no conservative party a chance in elections for many decades.
The defat of the UD alliance at the 24 February election caused the dissolution of it and compelled the participating parties to modify their strategies.
