Concept

On January 13, 2022, it was announced that HBO Max gave a series order to Degrassi, a reboot of the franchise consisting of 10 hour-long episodes and is set to premiere in 2023.[1] Production is scheduled to begin in Toronto in the summer of 2022. Casting commenced for the series with a search for 13- to 20-year-old youth of all backgrounds. Filming is expected to begin July 1, 2022 and end November 30, 2022.[1]

The series is being developed by Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen, who had previously written the Degrassi: The Next Generation episode "Heat Of The Moment".[2][3] Linda Schuyler, franchise co-creator, and Stephen Stohn, creative partner on The Next Generation, issued a joint statement confirming that they would not be involved in the new series, stating that the "time is perfect to pass the baton" to Azzopardi and Cohen.[2]
