Noble was a champion premiership player at North Hobart in both 1987 and 1989, as vice-captain. Fitzroy picked him up with the 111th pick of the 1989 VFL Draft and he made his Fitzroy debut against Hawthorn on his former home ground, the North Hobart Oval. However, Hawthorn amassed 231 points, at the time the third-highest in VFL/AFL history. Noble had 18 disposals, and 12 the following round against North Melbourne at the MCG, which was his final match.
Noble was an assistant coach at the Western Bulldogs for five years from 1998-2002 before coaching Glenelg in 2003 and 2004.
Noble spent more than a decade at the Adelaide Crows as assistant coach (2005-10), list manager (2011-13) and head of football (2014-16) and was an integral part of the club’s eight finals campaigns.
In September 2016, he left his position as Adelaide Crows Head of Football to become the Brisbane Lions General Manager of Football.[1] On 20 November 2020, Noble was named as the new head coach of North Melbourne.[2]
His son John has played senior AFL football for Collingwood since 2019.
