Career

Jelaca grew up in Chicago, Illinois before studying at the Horst Education Center, now known as the Aveda Institute, in Minneapolis. He relocated to Miami and began working at salons including 13 years as styling director at Stella Salon.[2][11]

In 2009, Allure Magazine recognized Jelaca as a "Makeover Pro" of Miami.[12][13] He has also been featured on networks such as NBC's Today Show with Kathy Lee Gifford.[14] After over 20 years in the industry at the age of 43,[15] he opened the Danny Jelaca Salon in Miami's South Beach in September 2012.[16] The boutique salon has eight styling stations[9] and uses the Parisian product line Leonor Greyl.[17][18][19]

Jelaca is a stylist at the salon and is in charge of the day-to-day operations. He has stylized models for runway shows including Yves Saint Laurent, Diane von Furstenberg and Donna Karan.[2][9] In 2013, his salon was voted "Best Hair Salon" at the Floridian Awards, as well as the "Best Cut Miami" by InStyle magazine.[19] Jelaca's salon also received recognition by Modern Salon as a "Salon of Distinction" in May 2014,[20] and a Salon and Stylist award from Modern Luxury in 2015.[21] In 2016, Jelaca traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras to raise funds for an orphanage.[22] He also participated in styling models for the Miami Make-A-Wish Ball runway show.[23] In August 2017, Jelaca moved his Miami salon to a new location that included an enhanced makeup studio and medspa components.[24] Jelaca was selected to be a contestant on the Lifetime network show, American Beauty Star, airing in September 2017.[25] Jelaca also plans to spend more time than ever fulfilling his philanthropic commitments as the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida named him one of its Twelve Good Men in 2018. The Children's Home Society awarded him a seat on the State Board of Directors.[26]
