Commercial Street, Leeds

Commercial Street is a pedestrianised shopping street in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is 0.2 miles (0.32 km) long.[1]

History

The street was first developed by William Hey II as Bond Street in 1823–1824, and was renamed to Commercial Street several years later.[2] It contains The Leeds Library founded in 1768 [3] which is a private subscription library, the oldest surviving library of this kind in the UK, and has occupied its current purpose-built site on Commercial Street since 1808.[4]
