Construction
The station was built in 1743 by Grand Master Pinto to halt illegal activities such as smuggling and the evasion of quarantine regulations, dedicated to halting the plague.[2] The construction cost 456 Scudi, (approx. 46 euros). [3]
Application
The cost of applying the law (via the station) to the island in 1897 was around 14,447 Euros. During World War 2 the police station was used as an ally observation post. Later, the police officers stationed on the island were given the duties of distributing mail to the island's inhabitants, making sure that boats do not over-speed near beaches, and offering first-aid assistance to any injuries suffered by inhabitants or visitors of the island.[2]
