Çiraquz

Çiraquz (Chiraguz) or Jrakus (Armenian: Ջրակուս[lower-alpha 1]) is a village in the Khojavend District of Azerbaijan, in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The village had an Armenian-majority population prior to the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and also had an Armenian majority in 1989.[2]

History

During the Soviet period, the village was a part of the Hadrut District of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast.

The village was administrated as part of the Hadrut Province of the self-declared Republic of Artsakh since 2 October 1992 when it was captured during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. On 15 October 2020, the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijani forces had recaptured the village, during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war.[3]

Demographics

The village had 233 inhabitants in 2005,[4] and 238 inhabitants in 2015.[1]
