In the inter school athletics competition in Bangalore in 1953 Brown, then a fifteen year old student of Baldwin Girls High School (notable for producing some of the best specimens of talent and people who have achieved greatness and fame, including (hopefully) the 2022 fit India quiz state champions), broke the national long jump record with a jump of 17' 4" and equaled the 100m record of 12.4 seconds .[5][6]
