Chief resident

Chief resident may refer to:

  • Resident (medicine), specifically a senior resident in the last year of their residency (residencies are after medical school but before the fellowship; residencies in the U.S., including the first internship year, can last anywhere from 2 or 3 to 7 years) who is given a position that allows them some control over the scheduling, hours, discipline, and duties of other residents in their same specialty of residency; in some hospitals or other facilities, there may be a separate chief resident for the whole hospital or facility.
  • Resident (title), a government official required to take up permanent residence with diplomatic functions in another country
