Overview

The Trailblazer was launched on April 16, 2019, at the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition alongside the Tracker, that replaced the outgoing Trax. The Trailblazer is aimed for developed markets, while the Tracker is aimed for emerging markets.[2][3] Developed by GM Korea, the Trailblazer is mostly assembled in Incheon, South Korea but a few are assembled in Shanghai, China mostly for the Chinese market.

The Trailblazer made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019, and sales began in early 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle. There are five trim levels available: L, LS, LT, Activ and RS. The latter two came standard with dual exhaust and top of the line features.[4] The Activ and RS models also feature a two-tone roof.[5]

It was launched in the Philippines in October 2021. Imported from South Korea, it notably reused the nameplate from the previous Colorado-based Trailblazer which was discontinued in the same year.[6][7]

Engine and drivetrain options

In the United States, L, LS, and LT front-wheel-drive models came standard with the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, while LS and LT all-wheel-drive models include the larger 1.3-liter (1,341 cc) three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. The latter is also optional on the LT Front Wheel Drive (FWD) trim level). All RS and Activ models, regardless of drivetrain, include the 1.3-liter engine as standard equipment. All FWD Trailblazers are equipped with continuously variable transmission as standard. AWD versions come with a 9-speed automatic.

Trim Levels

The 2021 Trailblazer is available in several trim levels: L, LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS. The L, LS, and LT are the "Core" models of the Trailblazer lineup, and feature more traditional exterior styling. The ACTIV trim features a more rugged exterior appearance, while the RS trim features a sportier exterior appearance. In addition, the ACTIV and RS trims both offer a two-tone roof option.

The L trim was the entry level for the 2021 model year, and included standard equipment such as sixteen-inch tires and black-painted steel wheels with full plastic wheel covers, the 1.2L EcoTec Turbocharged Inline Three-Cylinder (I3) gasoline engine, a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), air conditioning, power windows and door locks, keyless entry, the Infotainment 3 seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi capabilities, a six-speaker audio system, cloth seating surfaces, a folding-flat front passenger bucket seat, black exterior trim, and the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance features. Due to low sales, the L trim was discontinued following the 2021 model year, leaving the LS as the entry-level trim of the Trailblazer lineup. Unlike other models in the Trailblazer lineup, which are available with All Wheel Drive, the base L trim was only available with Front Wheel Drive.

The LS trim, previously the step-up trim from the entry-level L, became the new entry-level trim in the Trailblazer lineup after the L was discontinued following the 2021 model year. The LS trim adds features onto the base L trim, such as seventeen-inch tires and aluminum-alloy wheels, and a digital compass. A cruise control is an option on the LS trim, although it must be purchased as an option. For 2022, the LS trim gains standard SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

The LT trim serves as the mid-level trim in the Trailblazer lineup. It adds features onto the LS trim, such as color-keyed exterior trim, unique seventeen-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a cruise control, heated exterior side mirrors, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, a remote vehicle starter system, and silver-painted exterior side roof rails.

The ACTIV trim of the Trailblazer lineup features a rugged exterior appearance. It adds features onto the mid-level LT trim, such as unique exterior styling, sport terrain tires and unique aluminum-alloy wheels, leatherette-trimmed seating surfaces, dual heated front seats, a front skid plate, LED rear tail lamps, a dual-outlet exhaust system with trapezoidal exhaust tips, the 1.3L EcoTec Turbocharged Inline Three-Cylinder (I3) gasoline engine, and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The ACTIV trim is only available with All Wheel Drive, and features a unique transfer case for enhanced all-weather capability.

The RS trim is the sportiest trim level in the Trailblazer lineup. It adds features onto the mid-level LT trim, such as unique exterior styling, eighteen-inch (18") tires and unique machined-face aluminum-alloy wheels, combination cloth and leatherette-trimmed seating surfaces, black exterior side mirror caps, an RS emblem on the lower portion of the front grille, unique lower fog lamps, a dual-outlet exhaust system with round exhaust tips, LED rear tail lamps, and the 1.3L EcoTec Turbocharged Inline Three-Cylinder (I3) gasoline engine.

Infotainment

The Trailblazer lineup features the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 touchscreen infotainment system, which offers wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi capabilities from OnStar. SiriusXM Satellite Radio was initially only offered on the LT, ACTIV, and RS trims, but was added as standard equipment on all Trailblazer models for the 2022 model year. The standard audio system on all Trailblazer models features six speakers. In addition, both ACTIV and RS models offer an "upgraded" infotainment system that adds wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (the Trailblazer is the first vehicle in the Chevrolet lineup to offer these capabilities), HD Radio, and an eight-inch touchscreen display. This infotainment system also includes a premium seven-speaker Bose audio system with an external amplifier and a subwoofer.

On January 16, 2020, the Trailblazer was launched in South Korea. The Korean-market model is larger in dimension than Trailblazers sold in other markets, with a length of 4,425 mm (174.2 in) and width of 1,810 mm (71.3 in).[8]
