The band, featuring vocalist Chris Lino, guitarist Rob Caggiano, bassist James Meselsohn, and drummer Mike Meselsohn, toured through their local club scene for several years, building up their material and performance skills.
In 1996, they independently released their debut album, Low Society, featuring original guitarist Joey Barracato. Production duties were handled by Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal. Sometime after this released, Joey Barracato was replaced by Rob Caggiano.[3]
1999 saw the band opening for nationally-recognized acts, including Type O Negative, King's X, Clutch and Static-X, helping them catch the attention of local radio station WXRK. With their music in heavy rotation on the station, they eventually landed them the opening slot of a KROCK-sponsored show, headlined by Orgy.
The next year, Boiler Room signed to Roadrunner Records,[4] which was slated to release their debut album, "Can't Breathe", for the summer of 2000. The record, however, failed to come out after several delays, and Boiler Room signed with Tommy Boy Records. "Can't Breathe" was finally issued in November of the same year,[4] followed by a national and European tour, including a string of dates in the UK with Lost Prophets. Upon returning home in early 2001, the band's short-term contract with Tommy Boy expired and they were subsequently dropped from the roster.
With no label, Boiler Room broke up in April 2001,[4] with only that single release to their credit. The song "Do It Again" did however appear on an MTV compilation disc titled Return of the Rock that was released on June 13, 2000.
