Plot

The film starts with Shreya, who is drawing a figure of a girl's face vigorously on the walls of a mental asylum. She has drawn the same picture all over the walls. The story then goes to flashback.

Rano is an aspiring filmmaker who wants to make a documentary picture on 'Lakshmi's Bari' , a supposedly haunted place which is situated on the banks of Ajay river on the outskirts of Bolpur. Rano along with Shreya, his girlfriend and Shreya's friend Pritha and her boyfriend Debu all traveled to the place by car on the evening prior to bhoot chaturdashi.

After reaching Bolpur, they gathered various pieces of information about the haunted place. It is then revealed that Lakshmi was the illegal child of the Tagore family, and she was kept at a palace made for her all alone. People believed that she might be a witch and hence, she was sacrificed to Goddess Chamunda by burning her alive but in her burning state she ran away and was never found. Rano and his team were warned to not go into that house which is believed to be haunted, however Rano and his friends went there to shoot.

After reaching that place, Rano started exploring the house with a camera, while Pritha and Debu, in spite of having no interest in coming here, started exploring too. Meanwhile, Shreya found an anklet while Rano found a rotten skeleton, implying that the old ritual of sacrifice might still be in practice. While they were busy shooting and exploring, a child was running around whom they didn't notice. During their stay they felt a spooky atmosphere although, they didn't notice anything significant. After they were done with their shooting they reached a river bank. Rano and the others were relaxing there when they encountered a gathering of villagers and tantriks where a cremation was taking place. They came to know that that day being bhoot chaturdashi, these type of things do occur. As they were done with the shooting they were heading back during which they found a strange looking idol in the middle of the road and that idol appeared again during their journey. At that point they realized that something sinister is there so they wanted to get out of that place as soon as possible but couldn't reach their desired destination. After driving without having a proper way out, they somehow reached Lakshmi's bari. This time they heard a child's laughter and mischievous sound. While Shreya told them that Lakshmi might want to say something, Debu became very scared when a chunk of cement fell near him and he wanted to get away from there and hence they all fled in spite of Shreya's unwillingness. However, after some time, their car ran out of fuel and Debu blamed Rano for everything. After a heated argument between the two, an upset Rano pushed Debu, who, in a fit of rage, went to beat Rono but was taken away by an unseen force. They all started to run but somehow they ended up at Lakshmi's bari, with no exit. Meanwhile, Pritha, now possessed, fell into the well and died. Suddenly, the premises lit up with candles to reveal a group of people with tantriks, gathering together to perform a sacrifice. Suddenly Shreya figured out that Rano was missing and, after hearing his scream, she realized, to her horror, that he was helplessly kept in a 'harikatha' and was beheaded by a tantrik. In the outskirts of town, fellow villagers who were actively taking part in the ritual were revealed to have been possessed or dead all that time.

Back to present, Shreya is drawing Lakshmi's picture all over the walls and repeatedly saying that if Lakshmi wants to play with you, you must play with her. It is then revealed that she is possessed by the ghost of Lakshmi.

In the final scene, Lakshmi in her deathbed attire, sitting in her palace and she has an eerie smile on her burned face and the credits roll. [5]
