History

TBD: Need references before January 2021 and the founders

In January of 2021, Bay Staters for Natural Medicine led by James Davis and with the support of their 45 member volunteers, in a collaborative effort with Decriminalize Nature Massachusetts, achieved their first success in helping the City of Somerville decriminalize possession of all drugs, including entheogens.[1]

In February of 2021, after a similar collaboration between Bay Staters and Decriminalize Nature Massachusetts, the City of Cambridge adopted a similar resolution, lead by City Councilor Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler.[2]

In March of 2021, after being contacted by members of Bay Staters, Northampton Massachusetts City Councilors Rachel Maiore (Ward 7) and William Dwight (At Large) co-sponsor a resolution urging the decriminalization of the use and possession of entheogenic plants, for which psychedelic drugs fall under, pointing to their potential medical benefits as well as the harmful impact of the so-called "war on drugs." That resolution is approved on April 2, 2021.[3][4]

In October of 2021, after an outreach effort by Bay Staters, the city of Easthampton becomes the fourth city in Massachusetts to decriminalize psychedelics.[5][6]
