Mini plots to separate Anirudh and Bondita with Anirudh's father, Binoy's help. Anirudh refuses to recognize Bondita as his wife and rather sees her as his responsibility.
Anirudh helps Bondita overcome the trauma of her father's death caused by a venomous snakebite. Shortly thereafter, Anirudh plans to educate Bondita himself, after a local home tutor increases her fear towards studies by using brutal punishment methods. However, Bondita bunks her classes as she unintentionally helps a fraud man named Brijwasi Babu, who pretends to be a huge devotee of Lord Krishna to save Sampoona's marriage after her in-laws demand more dowry. She helps him, but unfortunately gets caught by Anirudh who sends her back to the village, thinking her to be the reason for Saudamini's blindness and his influential family's drowned respect.
A while later, it is revealed that Saudamini was fooling Anirudh of her fake blindness, and tricks him to spend a night with her. Anirudh who was unaware of her intentions helps her and goes to her house at night, only to get drugged by her. A few villagers tell Anirudh that he has to marry Saudamini, as he spent a night with her which is unethical according to their traditions, he unwillingly agrees to get engaged to her, but only to save her dignity. Back in Devipur, Bondita is ill-treated to be left by her husband and is termed as a Chodi Huyi Aurat. To overcome the difficulties Bondita is causing them, and even save Sampoorna's marriage; Devoleena sells her to a brothel, telling her that she's sending her to meet Gandhi Ji. An innocent Bondita agrees and leaves. Meanwhile, in Tulsipur, a brothel dancer named Rasiya Bai tells Anirudh and is family of her ill-treatment back in her village. Tagging him as a hypocrite, and a fraud person who makes promises, but is unable to fulfill them, her words make Anirudh realise his mistake, and Bondita's true intention to help Brijwasi after Sampoorna tells him the truth.
Anirudh goes to Bondita's village to get her back and apologise for his actions to her and her mother. As he reaches there, he is informed by Devoleena, that Bondita ran away, unable to take anymore insult. Anirudh tells Bondita that he wants her to become a barrister. Binoy marries the widowed Sampoorna after being blackmailed by Sampoorna's parents.
Shortly afterwards, Anirudh and Bondita nullify their marriage to support the 1929 Child Marriage Restraint Act. Bondita's grandaunte, Kalindi (also known as Thaku Maa), enters and takes Bondita to Krishna Nagar, creating havoc in lives of Anirudh and Bondita. She plans Bondita's marriage to Chandrachur Banerjee, but a disguised Anirudh rescues her. Bondita decides to become a barrister, and Anirudh sends her to London to fulfil her dream. Kalindi places Bondita's cousin, Tupur in her place to marry, to save her name. Chandrachur is attracted to Bondita and thus unwillingly marries Tupur.
8 years later
Bondita is now grown up and returns to Tulsipur after becoming barrister. Much to her dismay, she learns about the factionalism between Tulsipur and Krishna Nagar, as Kalindi and the Roy Choudhurys have now become sworn enemies. Anirudh refuses to see Bondita, as she is related to Krishna Nagar, but misses her. Bondita is told that after she left, when Kalindi had finally agreed to start a new friendly relation with Roy Choudhurys, Anirudh betrayed them by setting up a bomb behind gifts. Bondita refuses to believe it and goes to Tulsipur as Vaijayanti to find the truth. She is shocked to find a mentally disabled Binoy. Sampoorna reveals to her that Krishna Nagar gave them poisoned food and attacked them, which resulted in Binoy going mad. Bondita manages to eventually change Anirudh's rude behavior. In a turn of events, she is exposed while saving Binoy. As Anirudh keeps quiet and doesn't support her, she breaks all relations with him. Anirudh, who feels guilty, realises that he has fallen in love with Bondita and confesses his feelings to her. Bondita forgives him and they manage to convince their families to end their feud. Their marriage is fixed and they get married.
On the wedding night, Chandrachur, plans to molest Bondita. However, he catches Bondita's cousin, Tapur, trying to reveal his intention and molests her instead. Anirudh catches him red-handed and chases after him. In a twist of events, he accidentally pushes Chandrachur off a cliff. Anirudh accepts the crime to save Tapur's dignity. Bondita fights for Anirudh's case. After much investigation, she finds out the truth and encourages Tapur to testify in court but gets humiliated by public prosecutor Subodh Chatterjee. Bondita later finds Tupur's activities suspicious and finds that Chandrachur is still alive. She manages to tie him up and makes him confess to all his crimes, including that he was the one who hid bombs behind Anirudh's gifts and poisoned their food. Bondita wins the case, proving Anirudh is innocent, and becomes an inspiration to all the women.Anirudh and Bondita finally consummate their marriage.
In a turn of events, Bondita is dragged and thrown in the river by some villagers who support patriarchy and consider Bondita a danger to society. Anirudh manages to save Bondita, but he himself goes missing. Anirudh's lookalike brother, Batuk, arrives and tries to save Anirudh, but in vain. Everyone assumes him to be dead and this only fuels Batuk's anger towards Bondita. Bondita is revealed to be pregnant. Batuk disguises himself as Anirudh to snatch Bondita's child and throw her out of the house after her delivery. Trilochan, who is unaware of Batuk's intentions, allows him as he doesn't want Bondita's health to deteriorate from shock.

Bondita, devastated upon finding her children missing, reaches the house but is unable to enter as the door is locked by Batuk. She begs Batuk to give her children back to her. However, Batuk reveals his intentions and tries to burn Bondita alive but Anirudh reaches there in the nick of time and saves her. She reveals everything that had happened in the past six months when he was not with her. A furious Anirudh breaks the door and enters the house. After an emotional reunion with his family members, Anirudh slaps Batuk and expels him.
