Banira Giri
Banira Giri (Nepali: वानीरा गिरि; 11 April 1946 – 24 May 2021) was a Nepali poet who published many works such as Karagar, Mero Aviskar – poetry collection, Shabdatit Shantanu etc.[1][2][3][4] She received the Sajha Puraskar for her novel, Shabdatit Shantanu. She was the first female writer to win the prize.

She was the first woman to be awarded a Ph.D. by Tribhuvan University for her thesis on the poetry of Gopal Prasad Rimal.[5]
Biography
Giri was born on 11 April 1946 (29 Chaitra 2002 BS) in Kurseong, India. She moved to Kathmandu in 2022 BS (1965-1966) to study MA under the scholarship programme of Mahendra of Nepal.[6]

Personal life and death
She was married to Shankar Giri, an engineer from Janakpur. On the night of May 24, 2021, Giri died after suffering a heart attack and testing positive for COVID-19, at the age of 75.[7]
