Overview

Prior to the launch of Balitang A2Z, ABS-CBN News produced news updates for the station called A2Z News Alert on November 1, 2020. It served as News Patrol's de facto spin-off newscast and free-to-air successor, using the latter's studios and graphics. However, compared to its now-cable counterpart, A2Z News Alert only airs during events of national importance (e.g. Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses). A2Z News Alert was the first news program and, before January 2022, the only news program produced by ABS-CBN News that airs on the channel.

Rumors have also been floating about the 'return' of ABS-CBN's flagship newscast TV Patrol on free TV via A2Z when the channel was launched on October 10, 2020. However, the program wasn't included on the channel's program lineup due to the editorial concerns and aired movie block Primetime Zinema instead.[2] Eventually, on January 1, 2022, TV Patrol Weekend has been added to A2Z's programming as well as its regular weekday edition on January 3 of the same year.[3]

On June 22, 2021, ZOE Broadcasting Network posted job advertisements on its Facebook page relating to its station-produced news program.[4] On July 23, 2021, A2Z aired plugs for the upcoming newscast and on July 26, Balitang A2Z premiered at 10:30 pm.

From July 30 to August 13, 2021, Balitang A2Z temporary suspended its operations due to COVID-19 related concerns and their hampered operations.[5] The program temporary suspended its operations once again from January 10 to January 11, 2022 due to same reasons.[6]

The newscast is also available on its Youtube channel (delayed telecast) and Facebook page live.[7]

From March 28 to April 7, 2022, the newscast temporarily move its timeslot to 11:30 pm due to the special program of ABS-CBN News Harapan 2022 taking over its 10:30 pm timeslot.[8]
