History
The stall was founded by Lim Ngak Chew, who began selling rojak in Toa Payoh in 1961, and moved to a location opposite the Hoover Theatre in 1971 after he obtained his hawker's license. In 1978, he moved his business to its present location in a stall in Whampoa Makan Place[2][3] The stall is known for serving Rojak that includes Century eggs, jellyfish, and ginger flowers.[2]
In 2014, Lim was diagnosed with terminal-stage colon cancer, and died of the illness on 22 August 2017.[2][4] While going through chemotherapy, Lim would frequently visit his stall.[4] In December 2014, he handed ownership of the stall to his son, Stan Lim, who previously worked in sales.[5][2]
Awards
The stall was one of 37 stalls in Singapore to be awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award in 2016.[1] It has maintained its position in the Michelin Bib Gourmand.[6] In 2013, Ngak Chew was recognised as a Hawker Master for Chinese Rojak by Singapore Press Holdings.[4]
