Bajrakli Mosque (Peja)
The Bajrakli Mosque (Albanian: Bajrakli Xhamia / Çarshi Xhamia; Bosnian: Bajrakli džamija; Serbian: Бајракли џамија) is the main mosque situated in the center of the Bazaar of Peja. It was built in 1471 by Sultan Fatih Mehmet Hani and is an Ottoman-style single-domed mosque with the oldest and highest dome in the city. The mosque was burned twice once during 1943 by Italian forces when the Bazaar of Peja was completely burned down, and the second time by Serbian militia during the 1999 War in Kosovo.[1]

Notes
- The political status of Kosovo is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, it is formally recognised as an independent state by 97 UN member states (with another 15 recognising it at some point but then withdrawing recognition), while Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory.
