History
The Austin Aquarium was founded by brothers Ammon and Vince Covino. The two had previously opened aquariums in Boise and Portland. The site of the Austin Aquarium was a former Lacks store, and construction started in mid-2013, before they had received the proper permits to do so. They also started obtaining animals at this time, also without some of the necessary paperwork. The Covinos were issued a citation from the city in July 2013 for keeping animals at the site without a permit, and animal-rights group PETA called for the aquarium to receive a full inspection. [3]
