Public contributions

  • A.M.M.A association contributed 50 lakh rupees to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, to extend its support during 2018 Kerala floods.[3]
  • On October 6, 2018 Mohanlal announced that AMMA along with Asianet will conduct a stage show in Abu Dhabi by December 2018 with the intent to raise around five crore rupees which would be handed over to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund.

Disputes

  • In February 2010, the senior actor Thilakan announced to the media that few members within AMMA has conspired and denied him work. The executive members of AMMA convened meetings multiple times to hear his complaints. Since Thilakan did not attend those meetings and continued to publicly defame the association in the media, he was expelled from the association.[4] After the veteran actor Thilakan died, his son Shammi Thilakan, a member of AMMA, requested the AMMA leadership to reconsider and reinstate the membership of his father posthumously.
  • In March 2017, based on the petition by director Vinayan in 2012, Competition Commission of India (CCI), imposed a total fine of Rs 11.25 Lakhs on the AMMA and Film Employees Federation Of Kerala (FEFKA) for denying opportunities for Vinayan, preventing artists from co-operating with Vinayan, and rejecting his films from theaters.[5][6]
  • In 2017, actor Dileep was declared to have been removed from AMMA's primary membership after he was charged and arrested for criminal conspiracy in a popular Malayalam movie actress assault criminal case. Dileep was expelled from amma by Mammootty. After the emergency meeting, Mammootty told media that Dileep's membership was revoked. Not just actors' guild, he was even expelled from the primary membership in Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes

Soon after when Dileep was released out on bail, his membership was reinstated back by AMMA, claiming his removal was not legally valid as per the laws of the committee. Claim was primarily made by KB Ganesh Kumar. In this time governing body was changed.

Protesting against the lukewarm approach in removing actor Dileep's membership from AMMA, few actresses protested out in the open media and resigned from AMMA membership. They even went on to form a group named - Women in Cinema Collective. WCC kept on protesting through a series of social media interventions that it was high time AMMA should take a favorable stand towards the welfare of the female actors in Malayalam cinema. In light of these events, AMMA General body meeting conducted in 2021 revised the bylaws; included more women participation in the executive body; and even formed an internal complaints committee for the welfare of women.
