Anti-Corruption Bureau (Rajasthan)

Anti Corruption Bureau, abbreviated as ACB is an agency specialised in fighting corruption in various government departments against public servants and private individuals who promote crime under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.[1]

The Bribery Prevention Bureau is primarily responsible for detecting, investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption among public servants and for providing honest, transparent and clean administration to government departments.[2] The ACB investigates allegations of corruption and investigates cases reported under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB handles four types of cases. Trap cases, misappropriation of assets, scams and misconduct in the office.[3]

The notification empowered the Anti-Corruption Police Station to deal with all cognizable offenses related to bribery and corruption, including criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation and criminal misconduct involving a public servant.[4]

In the year 1991, vide Notification No. 29(92) Home/Grade I/90 dated 25-2-1991, the State Government changed the name of Anti-Corruption Department to Rajasthan State Bureau of Investigation.[5] Further, the notification expanded the purview of the RSBI to certain specific offenses under the cases of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and the IPC assigned to the RSBI by a specific order of the Government.[6][7]

In the year 1998, vide Notification No. 29(92)Home/Grade I/90-Part, dated 24-11-1998, the State Government changed the name of Rajasthan State Bureau of Investigation to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).[8][9]
