American Communist History (ACH, Am. Communist Hist.) is a tri-annual peer-reviewed academic journal, published by Historians of American Communism (HOAC), focusing on the historical impact of Communism in the United States.

Purpose

American Communist History is the non-partisan journal of the scholarly association Historians of American Communism. It publishes "objective scholarship" about the history of communism in the USA or other regions related. Topic vary from communist precursors (e.g., the Industrial Workers of the World) to developments within or close to American communist parties (e.g., Communist Party USA) and the American communist movement (e.g., New Left).[1]

Submissions

To encompass the "broadest possible perspective," ACH accepts submissions from historians, other scholars, journalists, activists, i.e., people "who can contribute to a complex, intriguing, and important history."[1]

History

Formation

Founders were primarily Daniel J. Leab (also editor of Labor History) and John Earl Haynes.[2]

ACH began publishing in 2002.[3]

ACH's original and long-time managing editor was Daniel Leab, who died in 2016.[2]
