Production
In April 2021 Deadline announced that production had begun on a film adaptation of Sarah Dessen's 2009 novel Along for the Ride, the rights of which had been picked up by Netflix.[3] Sofia Alvarez, who had previously adapted two of Jenny Han's novels for the platform, was brought on to write the screenplay as well as serve as director.[4] Actress Emma Pasarow was confirmed as portraying the novel's protagonist, Auden, while Belmont Cameli would play opposite as her love interest, Eli. Other actors confirmed to be in the film included Andie MacDowell, Genevieve Hannelius, and Ricardo Hurtado.[5]
Principal photography began on April 22, 2021, in Carolina Beach, North Carolina,[6] and is planning to also film in Wilmington, Kure Beach, and Oak Island.[7][8] Filming continued through early June.[9]
