Agent (film)

Agent is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language spy thriller film directed by Surender Reddy from a story written by Vakkantham Vamsi. Produced by AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema, the film stars Mammootty, Akhil Akkineni, and Sakshi Vaidya.

The film was announced in September 2020. Filming began in July 2021, and took place in Hyderabad, Budapest and Visakhapatnam. The film was initially scheduled for a release on 24 December 2021 which was deferred due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now scheduled to be released on 12 August 2022.

Development

The film was announced by Akhil Akkineni in September 2020, tentatively titled Akhil 5, with Surender Reddy as the director.[1] It was officially launched on Akkineni's birthday in April 2021, revealing the title and posters.[2][3] A pooja ceremony was held on the launch day.[4]

Cast and crew

Akkineni's role as a spy reportedly inspired by the Jason Bourne character from the American-German film series Bourne.[5] In December 2020, model Sakshi Vaidya was confirmed as the female lead.[6] Hiphop Tamizha are composing the film score and soundtrack album,[7] with Ragul Herian Dharuman signed as the cinematographer and editing by Naveen Nooli. In March 2021, Mohanlal and Upendra were approached for a pivotal role which did not finalize.[5][8] In June 2021, Mammootty has been finalised to star in the movie, marking the first collaboration between Mammootty, Akkineni and Reddy.[8] He would reportedly play a military officer in the film.[9]

Filming

Filming began in July 2021 in Hyderabad, India.[10][11] Mammootty joined the production in October 2021 in Budapest and completed filming his portions.[12]

In March 2022, sequences featuring Akkineni were shot in Hyderabad Metro.[13] The following month, the production moved to Visakhapatnam and shot a few actions episodes and a song at the Visakhapatnam Port.[14]

Music

S. Thaman was earlier chosen as the composer of the film's score and soundtrack.[15] Later, in September 2021, it was reported that he has been replaced by Tamil musical duo Hiphop Tamizha.[16][17]

Release

Agent is scheduled to be released on 12 August 2022.[18] Initially, the film was initially scheduled for a release on 24 December 2021,[19][20] but the release was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[21]
