Aboriginal Affairs Act 1962
Don Dunstan, former South Australian Attorney-General, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and South Australian Premier, called for reforms to the Aborigines Act, 1934–1939 and modified a Government Bill to amend the Act.
The modifications were to remove all restrictions and restraints on Aboriginal people. For instance, it was no longer an offence for a non-Aboriginal man to ‘habitually consort with’ an Aboriginal woman and a non-Aboriginal man with an Aboriginal woman.[1]
