Zhdanivka

Zhdanivka or Zhdanovka (Ukrainian: Жданівка, Russian: Ждановка) is a city of regional significance in the de facto Donetsk People's Republic; de jure Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The city has a population of 11,913 (2021 est.)[1]

History

Starting Mid-April 2014 pro-Russian separatists captured several towns in Donetsk Oblast;[2][3] including Zhdanivka.[4] On 16 August 2014, Ukrainian forces reportedly secured the city from the pro-Russian separatists.[5]

On 20 September 2014, Ukrainian troops left the city due to the threat of encirclement.[6] Since then, it has remained under control of the DPR.
