Yedael Stepak

Yedael Stepak (Hebrew: ידעאל סטפק; born 21 August 1940) is an Israeli chess FIDE master (FM) (1983).

Biography

In 1958, Yedael Stepak won Israeli Junior Chess Championship. He was multiple participant of Israeli Chess Championship. His best result in this tournament - 4th place in 1961. Yedael Stepak was participant of a number of strong international tournaments held in Israel: Tel Aviv (1966), Netanya (1976), Beersheba (1984).[1][2][3]

Yedael Stepak played for Israel in the World Student Team Chess Championships:[5]

  • In 1962, at second board in the 9th World Student Team Chess Championship in Mariánské Lázně (+5, =2, -5),
  • In 1964, at first board in the 11th World Student Team Chess Championship in Kraków (+4, =5, -5),
  • In 1965, at first board in the 12th World Student Team Chess Championship in Sinaia (+2, =5, -4) and won team silver medal,
  • In 1966, at second board in the 13th World Student Team Chess Championship in Örebro (+1, =3, -6).

In 2004, Yedael Stepak played for Israel in the 1st World Senior Team Chess Championship and won team gold medal.[6] He was participant of European Senior Chess Championship in 2003, 2004 and 2006.[7][8][9]

In 2011, Yedael Stepak won silver medal in the Israeli Senior Chess Championship but in 2014 he won this tournament.[10]

Stepak's game with Houshang Mashian, played in the 1980 Israeli Chess Championship, was for a long time the longest among the games that ended in victory for one of the sides (Stepak, who played white, won by 193 move).[11]
