Yashar LaChayal
Yashar LaChayal (Hebrew: ישר לחייל) is an Israeli non-profit organization which was founded in the summer of 2006, during the Second Lebanon War.[1] It is one of many organizations whose purpose is to provide for soldiers in the Israel Defense Force in various ways.[2] All of the organization's overhead expenses are paid for by a philanthropist. Its name, Hebrew for "straight to the soldier,[3]" thus reflects the fact that donations made will go towards the humanitarian needs of Israeli soldiers without a percentage going towards the organization's overhead costs.

History
At the height of the Second Lebanon War in 2006, a group of volunteers drove hygienic supplies to soldiers stationed on the northern border of Israel. Dubbing the project "Operation Northern Points," they decided to continue their work after the war ended by founding the Yashar LaChayal organization.[4]
Funding
Yashar LaChayal's operating expenses are paid for by a philanthropist.[5] Beyond that, the aid provided by Yashar LaChayal to Israel's soldiers is funded by individual donors.
Activities
- Providing non-military equipment for I.D.F. soldiers above and beyond what the army itself provides.[6]
- Support for "lone soldiers"[7] (soldiers who immigrated, are orphans, or for other reasons have no family support) and injured soldiers[8]
- Support for soldiers from needy families.[9]
- Support for minorities serving in the I.D.F.[10]
