Xi'an–Yuxia railway

The Xi'an–Yuxia railway or Xi'an–Huyi railway is a railway branch line of the Longhai railway. It runs from Sanmincun railway station in Lianhu District in central Xi'an to Yuxia railway station in Huyi District in Southwestern Xi'an.[1] The line was about 41 km long and was used for freight traffic.[2]

Future Development

The line is planned to be rebuilt and reactivated for passenger traffic. Construction started in 2021 with opening planned in 2023. The northern terminal will be changed to a new station, Epanggongnan, located near the Epanggongnan metro station on Xi'an Metro Line 5.[3]

History

The railway from Huyi to Xi'an was surveyed and designed by the Southwest Railway Design Bureau in 1954 and constructed by the Sixth Railway Engineering Bureau on May 1, 1955.[2] The line officially opened to traffic on February 20, 1956.[4] During the 80s to about passenger services where operated.[4] However, due to the low passenger volume the Xi'an-Huyi railway stopped operating passenger services in 2000. In the following 20 years, there was debate on whether to demolish or reconstruct the railway.
