Taxonomy

The genus name of Whitfordiodendron is in honour of Harry Nichols Whitford (1872–1941), an American forester and professor of tropical forestry at Yale University.[3] The Latin suffix of dendron means tree.[4] It was first described and published in Leafl. Philipp. Bot. Vol.2 on page 743 in 1910.[1]

It was re-classed as a synonym of Callerya Endl., as such the genus is not recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture and the Agricultural Research Service and they do not list any known species.[5] But dna analysis in 2019 has reaffirmed its genus status.[2]
