Early life

He was born Bholanath Chattopadhaya to Akhil Chandra Chattopadhaya and Raj Rajeshswari Chattopadhaya in Bondul in Bardhaman district in West Bengal, India.

Bholanath was named so, as he was very innocent and guile less at heart. He would help others in a selfless manner.Though he was very curious to learn, he also was a very playful child who enjoyed life through harmless activities like swimming in river, meeting sadhus and more.

He had great attraction towards knowing the truths of life.

Bholanath lost his father very early and hence his mother & uncle were the ones who played a significant role during his childhood days.

Bholanath's uncle tried to teach him english but bholanath was always more drawn towards sanskrit.

Even today, there is an ashram in Bondul village in West Bengal, India, the birthplace of Shri Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa.

Sainthood or Sadhu Jeevan

Vishuddhanand Baba was a Sadhu who had a scientific and rational mindset along with devotional qualities. His spiritual training school was Gyanganj or Sidhaashram ahead of Kailash mansarovar in Tibet.

Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa attained the sadhana of Navmundi asana (Varanasi), the highest realisation on the Shakti path of Tantra.

Under his Guru's instruction, he married Maa Krishna Bhamini Devi and became a father of one daughter and two sons.

He continued his household duties and Sadhanas after marriage and became a Tirtha Swami.

GuruDev lost his mother, wife, daughter and son in a single year around 1911 after the Bondul Ashram was established. The multiple deaths created more subtle vairaagya in the deep core of GuruDev.

GuruDev brought a scientific outlook to the ancient wisdom along with the medical insights as he was also a qualified homeopath and Ayurved practitioner.

He wished to offer the world,a spiritual meditation centre based on Surya Vigyan or celestial Solar Science, but he had to stop because of the unwillingness or no permission of his Guru from Gyanganj.

For Vishuddhanand Baba, the words of the Guru were utmost important, so he did not move ahead with the establishment of Surya Vigyan centre.

Faith in IshtaDeva and Parabrahm

Shri Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa worshipped Maa Kali as his own mother. He also considered Bhagwan Shiv as his IshtaDeva.

Gurudev was liberal, scientific and rational by approach yet had deep faith in ancient wisdom.

He had faith that the ancient wisdom was not just teachings or principles but was an established fact of the Universe.

He was dedicated to his Guru and never disobeyed Guru's instruction.

In Tantra maarg, Navmundi Asan is considered to be the highest and is rare in the Universe.

It is said that the universe harbors only two Navmundi Asans, one in Varanasi at Shri Vishuddhanand Kanan Ashram and one at Siddhashram or Gyanganj, ahead of Kailash Mansarovar.

Many Sadhus or scientists talk about possibilities of Adhyaatma or Vigyan, but Shri Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa merged them and showed that Adhyaatma or Paramatman and Vigyaan or Atoms, Mundane and Subtle are one.

In 1800's & early 1900's those who could not understand the scientific approach of Adhyatma that GuruDev gave, tagged it as mere miracles.

Shri Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa had almost infinite siddhis but he only showed them sometimes out of innocence or from a scientific perspective that Adhyaatma is a reality. But many would just take him as a demonstrator of powers.

Britishers and others came to him to talk about science and spirituality, but he rejected talking too much. He disliked public life. His solitude was his dedication to the Divine Parabrahm.

Due to his comfort in solitude many people wrote or spread wrong things about him, but he felt that karma returns at the right time, the law of Prakriti works always, maybe this time or in other lifetimes.

It is great to know that Gurudev Vishuddhanand baba never spoke ill of anyone and that is the indication of a true Sadhu who never talks ill of sadhaks, gurus or other saints.

Many people were cured of dreadful diseases sometimes just with a blessing from Shri Vishuddhanand Paramhamsa and sometimes just a single medicine he gave while travelling village to village as per instructions of his Guru would cure diseases that were incurable since years.

'Karmebhyoh Namah' is his major message. He would say that, be it a householder or Sadhu, both have to settle their karmas.

Doing Kriya with mantra as initiated by Guru was expected to lead to divine knowledge, further yielding self-realisation.
