History

ULMA Construction was established in 1961 in Oñati (Guipúzcoa), under the name of Sociedad Cooperativa Industrial Talleres ULMA (ULMA Industrial Workshops Cooperative Society), dedicated to manufacturing packaging. In 1963, it was incorporated into the construction sector and introduced the first prefabricated scaffolding.

The process of internationalization began in Portugal (where the first subsidiary was created in 1980), France, Argentina and Chile.

The cooperative split into two different businesses between 1984 and 1985: packaging and construction. A year later, the ENARA cooperative joined them and they formed the Oñalán Group, renamed the ULMA Group in 1992. The group has a presence in 80 countries, 4,500 employees and a turnover of 700 million euros. At the end of 2021, ULMA Construction had  2025 employees

In 2005, the whole of the ULMA Group is incorporated as a division to the Mondragon Corporation (then MCC).[2][3]
