Premise

The film chronicles the events of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue that saw a junior football team and their coach trapped in a cave for a period of 18 days.

The film's cast includes Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton as Richard Stanton, John Volanthen and Richard Harris respectively.

Production

It had been announced in April 2020 that Ron Howard was to direct the film, with William Nicholson writing the screenplay.[1] Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer would acquire the rights to the film the next month.[2] In March 2021, Viggo Mortensen, Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton were among the cast announced to star in the film.[3]

Filming began on March 29, 2021 in Australia. It was also shot in Thailand.[4][5][6]

Music

The film's original score will be composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.[7]

Marketing

The first footage from the film was presented as part of MGM/UAR's presentation at CinemaCon on August 24, 2021.[8]

Release

Thirteen Lives is scheduled to be released on November 18, 2022.[9] It was originally set for an April 15, 2022 release, but was changed to the current date in response to positive test scores from its test screenings, where it earned a 97 in the top two boxes and an 86 definite recommend, the highest in MGM's history.[10]
