Synopsis

Yoon Hwa-Pyung, the son of a shaman family is a young boy who is psychic and can see ghosts. After the strange behavior of one of the village members, Hwa-Pyung is possessed by a powerful spirit called Park Il-Do. Throughout his possession, his mother is mysteriously killed and his grandmother commits suicide, leaving him alone with his father who blames him for the deaths, and his loving grandfather. Priest Yang is invited to the village, to perform an exorcism on the young boy. The young priest-in-training, Priest Choi, suggests that perhaps Hwa-pyung is being abused as marks are visible all over the boy's body, and leaves behind his information in case Hwa-Pyung wants to talk. Hwa-Pyung whispers that he has something to tell him, and Priest Choi leans in close.

Whatever Hwa-pyung told him has him rattled Priest Choi looks deeply affected and informs that he must visit his family. Priest Yang is worried that the younger man might be too spiritually weak to become an exorcist. With a glassy look in his eyes, Priest Choi brutally murders his parents, and finds out that his younger brother, Choi Yoon, is actually home and not at his class. He thirstily gulps down a gallon of water and starts breaking into his brother's bedroom, where Choi Yoon is hiding under his bed. At the same time, Hwa-Pyung, who is no longer possessed runs away from home after his father tries to strangle him. Having Priest Choi's address, he decides to go to his house but stops at the entrance of the house, sensing an evil spirit in the house. A policewoman and her daughter, Kang Kil-Young drive down a dark road, and seeing Hwa-Pyung standing in the middle of the driveway, with a terrified look in his eyes, the policewoman investigates the house, telling Kang Kil-Young and Hwa-Pyung to stay outside. The policewoman is murdered by Priest Choi while allowing Choi Yoon a chance to escape from his possessed brother. Hwa-pyung and Kil-young watch as Yoon runs out of the house. Kil-young stops him, demanding to know where her mother is, but Yoon yells that he doesn’t know. She heads towards the house, but Hwa-Pyung grabs her. His eyes wide in terror, he tells her that she shouldn’t go in. After the ambulance arrives to carry the policewoman's body away, Hwa-Pyung sees the possessed Priest Choi, standing eerily in the middle of a field like a terrifying scarecrow.

In 2018, 20 years after the incident, Hwa-Pyung is now a taxi driver who uses his psychic abilities to help those who are possessed, with his ultimate goal being to find Priest Choi in order to exorcist Park Il-do from his body. He is friends with Yook Kwang, a fearful shaman who occasionally accompanies Hwa-Pyung on his investigation but urges him to give up his endless search for Priest Choi and to live a normal life. Hwa-pyung has an entire wall devoted to news articles about families being brutally killed and has been apparently tracking deaths all over the country, ones that are suspiciously similar to those committed by Priest Choi. With his psychic abilities, Hwa-Pyung is able to see through the eyes of those who are possessed and find out who they have killed and who their victims are, which results in his entanglement with Kang Kil-Young who followed her mother's footstep and became a police detective. Kang Kil-Young along with her partner Detective Go first perceive Hwa-Pyung as a suspect as he seems to know where the victims and murderers are. Choi Yoon is now a priest, and also determined to find his possessed brother, while reluctantly exorcising those who are possessed with the help Hwa-Pyung . Unknown to Hwa-Pyung, Kang Kil-Young and Choi Yoon, they were the three children who were connected 20 years ago.

It is revealed through the exorcism of several people that Park Il-do orders the weaker spirits to possess people who are emotionally weak, and who come from vulnerable pasts. Throughout the show, Hwa-Pyung and Choi Yoon work together to expel demons while Kang Kil Young works to bring justice to the victims while being skeptical of spirits in general.
