Subriel Matías

Subriel Ahmed Matías Matthew (born March 31, 1992) is a Puerto Rican professional boxer. As of April 2022, he is ranked as the world’s fifth best active super lightweight by The Ring[1] and ninth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.[2]

He is best known for his bout with Maxim Dadashev, which resulted in the latter boxer's untimely death.[3]

Professional career

Matias vs. Hawkins

On 24 October, 2020, Matias faced Malik Hawkins. Matias won the fight via a seventh round TKO.[4]

Matias vs. Jukembayev

In his next bout, Matias faced Batyrzhan Jukembayev, ranked #8 by The Ring, the WBC, and the IBF and #13 by the WBA at super lightweight.[5] Matias forced Jukembayev to quit on his stool after eight brutal rounds.[6]

Matias vs. Ananyan

In his next bout, Matias faced Petros Ananyan who was ranked #13 by the WBA at super lightweight,[7] in a rematch after Ananyan handed Matias his first professional career loss. Matias managed to get revenge and finished Ananyan within nine rounds.[8]
