Stanislaus Regional Transit

Stanislaus Regional Transit, marketed as StaRT, was the primary provider of mass transportation in the suburban areas of Stanislaus County, California. It served more outlying regions of the county, while the Modesto Area Express (MAX) ran public transit within the city of Modesto. Six fixed routes are provided, while the agency also offers flexible route dial-a-ride service. As of 2021, StaRT merged with MAX to form the Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority which combines the two services’ lines into one comprehensive network.

History

Acting on the recommendations of a county-wide Transit Efficiency and Innovations Study, which was performed in late 2019, MAX and StaRT will merge into a single joint powers agency named the Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA), as announced in 2021.[1]
