Soya Bus

The Soya Bus Co., Ltd. (宗谷バス株式会社, Souya Basu Kabushiki-gaisha) is a bus company which was established on 1 July 1952[1] to inherit part business of the Dohoku Bus.

The SOYA bus is famous as a bus company which operates around the northernmost of the Japan. The bus company had belonged to Tokyu Group since 1959 until 2009.

Chronicle

  • on 1 July 1952: Commenced operations
  • on August 1954: Established Omu Office
  • on 1956: Head office was moved from Esashi, Hokkaido (Sōya) to Wakkanai, Hokkaido
  • on 28 December 1959: This bus company was affiliated to Tokyu Corporation
  • on 1971: Discontinued Omu Office
  • on 1 July 1985: As Kohinhoku Line was discontinued, this company began to operate bustitution
  • on 1 May 1989: As Tempoku Line was discontinued, this company began to operate a bustitution
  • on 1 October 2010: Tokyu Corporation and Jōtetsu relinquished their shares, and transferred to Jay Will Partners. So, this company broke away from Tokyu Corporation[2]

This bus company has swapped this company members for their bus company members who work in Horikawa Bus, Naha Bus and Ryukyu Bus since 2008. And, they also swap theirs for Soya Buses'. Soya Bus had the company members travel to Horikawa Bus which operates around Fukuoka Prefecture and Naha BusRyukyu Bus that operates around Okinawa Prefecture during summer because this bus company is not busy during summer. They travel to Soya Bus in Hokkaido during winter because it doesn't snow during winter around Kyushu region.[3]
