Geography
Sloup lies approximately 9 kilometres (6 mi) north-east of Blansko, 27 kilometres (17 mi) north of Brno, and 183 kilometres (114 mi) south-east of Prague.
Sloup lies on the northern border of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. In the municipality is located part of the nature reserve Sloupsko-šošůvské jeskyně ("Sloup-Šošůvka Caves") known for the Kůlna Cave which became a remarkable European Paleolithic site since the 1880s.
