Background
The show was commissioned in July 2021.[2] It is produced at Dock10 by Possessed and Potato.[3]
Format
There are six individual contestants who are lined up on chairs with the aim being to reach the golden chair at the front. If they get a question wrong from that position, they go to the red chair at the back. The final three contestants compete for the jackpot in the final.[4] The maximum jackpot is £100,000.[2]
Reception
Joel Golby of The Guardian found Lineker to be a poor presenter with little interest in the contestants, contrasting with fellow ex-footballer Ian Wright on another new ITV game show, Moneyball.[4] Billy Weir of The Belfast Telegraph criticised footballers being game show hosts, naming Lineker, Wright and Alex Scott of The Tournament.[5]
On UKGameshows.com, Iain Weaver was more positive, praising Lineker for running the show efficiently and explaining the rules well. He also lauded the format for being flexible and not relying on mechanical gimmicks.[6]
