Sim Jae-yun or Jake Sim (November 15, 2002), known mononymously as Jake, is Korean-Australian singer and presenter.

Life and career

2002–2019: Early life

Sim was born on November 15, 2002, in Seoul, South Korea.[1] His family consists of his parents and an older brother, who was born in 2000. When he was eight years old, he immigrated to Cairns, Australia with his mother and older brother. Two years later, he moved to Brisbane, Australia. Sim started playing soccer when he was living in South Korea. He played club soccer and was on his school's soccer team. In 2017, Sim decided that he wanted to pursue a career as a K-pop singer while watching BTS perform at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. In June 2019, Sim participated in the Belift Seoul open call audition in Seoul. He sang Love Yourself by Justin Bieber and passed the audition. He became a trainee later in the same year.[2][3]

2020–present: Career beginnings and debut with ENHYPEN

On June 1, 2020, Sim was announced as a participant in the survival show I-LAND, an idol survival show produced by Mnet and Belift Lab, a joint venture between CJ E&M and HYBE. As one of seven successful participants, he went to join the newly formed idol group Enhypen, placing third. He made his official debut with the group on November 30, 2020.[4][5]

Sim is fluent in both Korean and English.

Education

When Sim moved to Australia, he attended and graduated from Edge Hill State School. He later attended St Peters Lutheran College. After moving back to South Korea, Sim transferred to Dwight School Seoul.[7] While living in Australia, Sim was on his school's soccer team. He also played the violin in his school's orchestra.[8]
