Second Garibashvili government

The second government of Irakli Garibashvili is the current government (cabinet) of Georgia, with Irakli Garibashvili as its head as the country's Prime Minister from February 22, 2021. Following the resignation of Giorgi Gakharia, the ruling Georgian Dream party nominated former Prime Minister and then-Minister of Defense Irakli Garibashvili to form a government.[1] His cabinet was quickly confirmed by the Parliament four days later.[2]

Garibashvili's government has been subject to sharp criticism from the West for democratic backsliding and for failing to protect minorities in the country.[3] Several members of the U.S. Congress and the European Parliament have also criticised the government for successfully orchestrating the capture, detainment and imprisonment of former President Mikhail Saakashvili.[4][5]
